PANZ nod for Gottfried Lindauer's New Zealand: The Māori Portraits

14 June 2017

Gottfried Lindauer's New Zealand: The Māori Portraits, edited by Ngahiraka Mason and Zara Stanhope, has been nominated for two award categories for the upcoming 2017 Publisher's Association of New Zealand (PANZ) Design Awards. The book designed by Neil Pardington and AUP's own book designer Katrina Duncan is up for both Best Illustrated and Best Typography. A breathtakingly beautiful item as well as a full and wonderfully written scholarly work, we are immensly proud of the book.

The book was recently recognised for it's stunning visual design and layout, and won best in show for a major exhibition catalogue at MAPDA (Museums Australasia Multimedia & Publication Design Awards). The MAPDA judges said of Gottfried Lindauer's New Zealand: The Māori Portraits:

The perfect catalogue. Exceptional production quality and well considered stock. Great scale and proportion. Beautifully reproduced photography. The design is highly respectful of the images and shows integrity and sensitivity in dealing with the subject matter.

It's up against some stunning competition though – here is the complete list of titles and catagories on the PANZ website. AUP wish very good luck to all the books and designers nominated.
