Peter Simpson wins Prime Minister’s Award for Literary Achievement

03 August 2017

Congratulations to Peter Simpson on receiving the 2017 Prime Minister’s Award for Literary Achievement in non-fiction! We think it’s well-deserved – we were thrilled to publish Peter’s fantastic book Bloomsbury South: The Arts in Christchurch 1933–1953 last year, and we always admire his ongoing commitment to documenting the arts in New Zealand.

‘Our congratulations to this year’s recipients who are being recognised for their extraordinary legacy of literary achievement. As leaders in their respective crafts, they have engaged New Zealand readers with their story telling and have inspired other New Zealand writers to build on their literary legacy’, said Arts Council Chair Michael Moynahan.

Simpson and the two other winners, Witi Ihimaera (fiction) and Paula Green (poetry), will read and discuss their work with author Kate De Goldi at a free event at Unity Books Wellington on Thursday 10 August, 12.30–1.15pm. All welcome.
