Jack Vowles was for many years a professor in the Political Studies Department of the University of Auckland and is now based at the University of Exeter.

His research interests are New Zealand and comparative politics, political behaviour, public opinion, elections and electoral systems. Much of his work over the past twenty years has explored the course and consequences of electoral system change in New Zealand, as published in a series of books from Auckland University Press.

Professor Vowles is currently engaged in a study of the UK electoral system referendum.
