Pei Te Hurinui Jones

Ngāti Maniapoto; 1898 - 1976; Māori-language translator and scholar.

Pei Te Hurinui Jones was a Ngāti Maniapoto leader, interpreter, land officer, writer, translator and genealogist.

An outstanding scholar, he was completely bilingual. Te Hurinui published extensively in both English and Māori, translating Shakespeare’s plays and compiling the Tainui traditions published in Nga Iwi o Tainui.
