Sarah Broom

Sarah Broom (1972–2013) was born and educated in the South Island of New Zealand. After graduating from Canterbury University, she studied in England at the University of Leeds (MA in English) and Oxford (DPhil), then lectured at Somerville College, Oxford, before returning to New Zealand in 2000. She held a post-doctoral fellowship at Massey University (Albany) and lectured in English at Otago University.

Her first collection of poems, Tigers at Awhitu, was published by Auckland University Press/Carcanet in 2010. She is also the author of Contemporary British and Irish Poetry and numerous articles and reviews.

Sarah Broom died in Auckland in April 2013 as her second collection of poetry, Gleam, was being finalised for press.
